                                               Rodenberg's Sharing Closet
Please bring clothes (on hangers please), household items, etc., in good condition to room 10.  We hope this
can begin a circle of blessings for many - whether you are bringing or enjoying what is brought - or both!  This
will also be a place for those who have had a fire or other difficulties where they need to replace household
items.  Hangers are needed - if you have any extra hangers please bring them to room 10.

                                       FOOD PANTRY
In addition to the canned fruit we now need canned meat items, vegetables, etc. (still no green beans needed).

                                                                    MISSIONS
Check for reports from the Martins in South Africa & the reports from the Martins in the South Pacific.
Their reports are posted on the member’s bulletin board and copies are available on the tract rack adjacent to

Phil Butcher, Mark Mills, Char Klein, Dick Barnum.

Prayer Requests:
Margie Butcher requested prayers for Butch.  He will have a heart cath at Biloxi Regional at 7 AM on
Wednesday, August 13.  UPDATE:  Surgery went well.  Although they found blockage that they could not clear
they hope to help the situation with changing his meds.  He thanks everyone for their prayers.

Joan Loomis requested prayers for her son Mike.  “He is in great pain with his right knee.  He is going to his
doctor August 20th  to see if he can make arrangements for an operation for a total knee replacement.”

Michelle Thompson requested prayers for herself.  She has broken her wrist and will be in a cast for six weeks,
and this will affect her work.

Blessed to Be Where We Are

Last week we wrote about how blessed we are to read the Bible.  I hope it made you appreciate that activity more.
It may have caused some feelings of guilt.  No apologies are offered for that.

Have you ever thought, in connection with Bible reading, how blessed we are to be where and who we are.  Being
literate at all is a tremendous advantage to us, even though our country has slipped behind some other countries.
Everyone who desires to read certainly has a chance to.  I have known some who could not read or read well who
got tapes or CDs and learned a lot of the word just by listening.

Being in a culture of respect for the Bible certainly helps, too.  There are many of our young people who have been
taught that the Bible is just another book and maybe one of the worst of the holy books.  You can imagine how much
actual reading they do (of any of the books) when they are told there is nothing special and certainly nothing urgent
about the Bible.

I remember in my first full time work in a good sized church in south Alabama telling my teenagers they needed to do
a better job of raising their children than their own parents.  An irate deacon called me up and said he was doing a
fine job.  I asked if his senior daughter was near and asked him to ask her if she believed the Bible.  The phone went
silent and then he said, “I’ll talk to you later.”  How wonderful it is to be in a Christian home where faith is such a
commonplace subject that everybody knows where everybody stands.
